Martin lives in a small Czech town, but he has big dreams. He wants to rock! The trouble is that Martin doesn’t think learning violin will get him there. When his violin accidentally falls off a bridge and into the river, it floats into Prague, where maybe it will make someone else’s dreams come true.
After losing his violin in the river, Martin tries to keep the bad news from his parents for the night, as they are celebrating his father’s birthday. Meanwhile, Martin’s violin is found by a city cleaner on the Charles Bridge. The instrument reminds him of an old friend — a violinist. Maybe this violin is just what the friendship needs to get started again after 20 years.
Martin finds a journal in his basement and is drawn into the story of the young boy who lived in his house decades ago and whose family was preparing to escape from Czechoslovakia. The journal is also full of wonderful stories told by the boy’s father about a flying postman and his adventures around the world.
Martin and his parents try to figure out what happened to the family who lived in their house 35 years ago. According to the journal that Martin found, they were making their own hot air balloon to escape from Czechoslovakia. The journal entries stopped the day they left the house. Will Martin’s family ever be able to learn the end to their exciting story?
