England for Kids: Audio Stories, Culture, Printables & Recipes

Time travel through England with Elsie

Elsie’s neighbor, Professor Higgins, has invented time-travel chewing gum, and life hasn’t been the same since. In four original audio stories, your family will help Elsie’s giggly cousin Barnaby keep a straight face as a royal guard, land in a 16th-century royal dungeon, step into the worlds of her favorite books at a mysterious new bookstore and welcome a surprise guest from the Mayflower. Each story is about 30 minutes and made for kids ages 5–11. This England country set also includes 8 printables, two recipes and a full country guide.

The Giggling Guard: Part 1

Elsie’s cousin Barnaby is a British royal guard, complete with furry hat and red uniform. He loves his job protecting the royal family, except for the fact that he’s not allowed to smile or laugh. For Barnaby this isn’t easy, as he’s always cracking jokes and laughing. Elsie is determined to help him control his giggling — for the sake of the country!

The Giggling Guard: Part 2

Elsie is still trying to help her cousin Barnaby fight his giggling for the royal knighting ceremony in a couple days. But when they visit Professor Higgins’ house next door and sample a piece of his time travel chewing gum, they find themselves 400 years in the past and soon in the dungeon. It’ll take more than jokes to get them all back home.

The Living Bookstore

Elsie goes to a new bookstore to meet with real authors who have come for the store’s opening day. But once she enters the enormous store, she finds one surprise after another that take her on an unbelievable journey. Will she ever get to meet with the authors like she had planned?

The Mayflower Suitcase

Elsie’s penpal Tanya comes to England for a visit, and the girls have a lot to catch up on after 18 months of just letter writing. When Professor Higgins comes by for tea he brings with him a surprise guest from the past — the captain of the Mayflower. Suddenly Tanya’s precious suitcase ends up going back to the past with the captain and the girls are determined to get it back.

Exploring England

Why is England part of the United Kingdom and Great Britain at the same time? This part of the country guide explains the four countries of the UK with maps, the rules royal guards follow (no smiling, no toilet breaks), Queen Elizabeth II, the Pilgrims’ journey on the Mayflower, why British and American accents sound different, and the very serious rules of English tea time.

Did you know? The King’s Guard’s tall bearskin hats weigh about 1.5 pounds, and guards stand at their posts for two hours at a time.
