Anders has a new love for photography, and it’s helping him see Sweden in a whole new way. In four original audio stories, your family will celebrate Midsummer in the countryside and get ready for the fairies, trade two coins and a chess piece for something big for the school auction, search for a lost antique Santa Lucia crown and travel to the Ice Hotel above the Arctic Circle to find the northern lights. Each story is about 30 minutes and made for kids ages 5–11. This Sweden country set also includes 10 printables, three recipes and a full country guide.

Anders travels to the Swedish countryside to celebrate the Midsummer festival with family friends. There he meets Anja, who is preparing for the arrival of fairies. Anders doesn’t believe in magical creatures, but when things start to disappear around the house, he’s not so sure. Even his scientific mind can’t explain everything. It’s a Midsummer celebration he’ll never forget.
Anders is searching for something BIG he can offer for the school auction, but all he has is two coins and a chess piece. What Anders discovers is that it doesn’t take much to start making trades for bigger and better items. And his mission around town takes him to places that show what really makes Swedish culture so special. But in the end, what will Anders end up with to offer.
Anders’ school has it’s own treasure — a beautiful antique Santa Lucia crown that is one of the oldest in Sweden. So when Anders and his friends misplace this priceless piece of history, they’ve got to put on their detective hats to figure out who stole it. The school’s Santa Lucia celebration is the next day, so the kids better figure it out quick!
Each year Anders’ family goes somewhere warm in January to escape the freezing Swedish weather. But this year, they’ll be going somewhere even colder — the Ice Hotel in the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights. Anders isn’t sure he’s ready to stay in a hotel made of ice, but will the beauty of Northern Sweden — with its reindeer herds and dogsled rides — win Anders over in the end? And will the skies ever clear up enough during their stay to even see the Northern Lights?
Explore Sweden from the south all the way past the Arctic Circle, find out what causes the northern lights and see how the Ice Hotel is rebuilt every year from river ice. This part of the country guide also covers Swedish recycling, forest schools and the countries of Scandinavia. Kids can paint the northern lights with art teacher Susan Garrison, in a lesson made just for Around the World Stories.
Did you know? The world’s largest scale model of the solar system stretches across all of Sweden, with a Stockholm arena as the sun.
